The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is the 'Research University in the Helmholtz Association': KIT is the only German university of excellence that combines a long-standing university tradition with large-scale national research. Beyond research and teaching, KIT has a strong focus on supporting innovation. The KIT-hosted Smart Data Innovation Lab (SDIL) is a gold-labelled i-Space of the BDVA, offering 'one-stop-shop' support to SMEs related to data-driven innovation. The SDIL team has experience in conducting more than 100 innovation projects related to AI in collaboration with SMEs. SDIL has provided support in European funding schemes targeted at SMEs and AI (EUHubs4Data, FF4EuroHPC, DIH4AI) and commercially offers AI-related tech consulting. Furthermore, KIT’s Scientific Computing Centre (SCC) runs a 76 GPU (A100) partition for SDIL within the regional BWUniCluster 2, which specifically offers HPC-based AI resources for collaborative research and innovation with companies. In one FF4EuroHPC experiment, 'AI-Platform for Automated Training of Object Detection Models Based on CAD Data,' KIT was responsible for porting the ML toolchain of the SME Kimoknow to HPC systems and for providing GPU-accelerated HPC resources, resulting in significant savings for the SME.
