AI-Driven Root Weed Detection and Precision Spot Spraying for Sustainable Agriculture

The AIRWEED-PSS project aims to revolutionise root weed control in arable farming through an advanced AI system for real-time detection and precision spot spraying. The goal is to create a user-friendly, accurate, and timely weed control system, addressing limitations in current sensor-based AI solutions.
Leveraging EuroHPC JU-Lumi’s High-Performance Computing services, the project will process terabytes of agricultural image data from PerPlant’s sensors, train complex AI models, and perform real-time recognition in diverse field conditions. This approach aims to increase data processing speed by 50% and improve prescription accuracy by 60%.
By addressing challenges such as large-scale dataset processing and model inaccuracies caused by environmental factors, the project seeks to lower adoption barriers, reduce pollution, and contribute to EU environmental targets. PerPlant anticipates generating up to 700 sales within three years following successful deployment.
